Dawson | 'It’s a great time for everyone to put a shift in'

Craig Dawson is hoping Wolves can build on the second half of last season as they get a whole pre-season with Julen Lopetegui under their belts.

Wolves are now back training at Compton Park following a camp away in Portugal where the group not only got to grips with the head coach’s ideas on the pitch but also enjoyed spending their free time together where they bonded as a team.

With Dawson one of many players who are taking part in a pre-season under Lopetegui for the first time, the defender understands the importance of having a prolonged period of the players working as a group ahead of the Premier League season getting underway.

On pre-season in Portugal

“We had a little bit of a reset and it was good to spend some family time with the kids, which was nice, but it’s been a good trip and the lads are happy to be back.

“It’s been non-stop. We’re working hard but everybody is enjoying it. We’re so lucky to be in the environment we are and be training in these places.

“It’s been really good, and the lads have been getting stuck in.”

On bonding as a team off the pitch

“It’s great and part of pre-season, where everyone gets together and has a laugh in the evenings.

“But most importantly we work hard and it’s part of building the group and making it a tight unit, which we need.”

On preparing for the new season

“We worked ever so hard last season to stay in the Premier League and it’s going to be a tough season again, like every year in the Premier League.

“We have top quality players and it’s a season we’re looking forward to, to build on last year.”

On a first full season in gold and black

“It’s very important and right now it’s a great time for everyone to put a shift in for the season because it’s one we're looking forward to.

“We need some additions, but I'm sure the club are working behind the scenes to do that, but so far, everyone is getting stuck in. It’s a good group.”
