Lopetegui’s men will play their first match in Ireland since 2014, before heading back to Molineux for a pair of pre-season outings ahead of the start of the new English top flight season.

Russell Jones, Wolves’ general manager for marketing and commercial growth, said: “We are really excited to be heading back to Ireland for the first time in almost 10 years for this match against Celtic.

“Both ourselves and Celtic were extremely disappointed to have been forced to withdraw from our tour of South Korea this summer, but we are pleased that we have been able to rearrange this pre-season fixture – and couldn’t have wished for a better replacement venue than Dublin and the Aviva Stadium.

“Wolves have enjoyed some thrilling meetings with Celtic in the past and we’re sure that this game will be the same, as well as a great opportunity for Julen and his squad to prepare for our Premier League season.”

Celtic come into this pre-season after securing a world-record eighth treble last season, and it will be the first time since 2018 that the team has played in Dublin.

The Hoops have a rich history with Ireland and enjoys staunch support across the whole country since their foundation in 1887 by Irishman, Brother Walfrid. Many Irish players and managers of Celtic have maintained this strong link, including current manager Brendan Rodgers.

The Dublin match will be one of Rodgers’ first as manager of Celtic since his return to the club during the offseason, whilst it will also see Celtic’s Korean striker, Oh Hyeon Gyu, face his fellow countryman, Hee Chan Hwang.

Wolves and Celtic’s most recent fixture took place in July 2011 when the side in gold and black defeated the Scottish outfit by two goals to nil.

Wolves head coach Julen Lopetegui said: “It was a disappointment for all of us when our pre-season tour and match against Celtic in South Korea was called off, so we are really pleased that the game is now going ahead in Ireland.

“Celtic are a very big club with great players and a very good manager, so we know how difficult the match is going to be, but it's the kind of challenge we want as it will help prepare the players for our new Premier League season.

“We look forward to our visit to Dublin and the chance to play in front of thousands of supporters in a great stadium, as we know there will be many Wolves fans there giving their amazing support to the team.”

The game will mark the second pre-season football match at Aviva Stadium this summer, with the venue also hosting the sold-out fixture between Manchester United and Athletic Club Bilbao eight days later.
