Having recharged his batteries following a difficult debut Premier League season, Matheus Nunes cannot wait to get going again in Old Gold as he excitedly looks forward to the 2023/24 campaign.
The midfielder was reunited with his teammates at Compton Park last weekend before the group jetted out to Portugal for a warm weather training camp as the squad prepares for another term in the top-flight.
Despite wanting to get back to playing competitive fixtures as soon as possible, Nunes understands the importance of working hard in pre-season to ensure the team are as well prepared as possible for August and the visit to Old Trafford to face Manchester United in Wolves’ opening fixture.
On taking a break after a tough season
“It was very good to recharge, to see my family, to see my friends and to visit new countries that I haven’t visited before.
“I went to Israel, I went to Ibiza, which I’ve never been to before – I’ve been to Spain but never to Ibiza, and I went to Greece. I’ve been to Greece before when I went to Mikonos, but this time I went to Santorini, which was very nice.”

On returning to training
“It’s always good. Pre-season is very hard in the beginning, but it’s always good to get to know new teammates and the players that come in from the youth, to help them to settle in.
“Specifically, this time, the coach arrived later in the season so he’s now starting from the beginning and it’s quite different than when he arrived because we had to get results straight away.
“Now he has more time to pass through his ideas more clearly than before, so I think it’s been very nice for us.”
On looking forward to the new campaign
“Of course, we just want to play the games. If you asked me before the pre-season if I wanted to do the pre-season I’d say no because we just want to get straight into the games.
“But we have to get through this to get fit, to get the ideas of the coach and to help the new teammates that are arriving.
“We are looking forward to it, but now we have to focus on pre-season so we can start really strong.”
