Jose Sa says last weekend’s victory over Chelsea will count for little if Wolves don’t follow it up with another positive showing this Saturday.
Julen Lopetegui’s side are back in Molineux action when Brentford come to town at the weekend and back-to-back victories would provide a huge boost for Wolves’ aspirations of remaining in the Premier League. Jose Sa kept a first clean sheet in four matches against the Blues, and although not happy with where Wolves are currently operating in the Premier League table, he’s seen a change in mentality, which has led to improved results.
On what has changed at Wolves
“We are the same, we fight, but we realised that we have to give more. We have to do more. It’s what we changed in our mind, because the quality is the same, the work is the same, it’s our minds we have to change to fight for what we want, for our goal.
“For us, it’s frustrating that we have amazing players, a lot of quality, but are so down in the table. In the beginning of the season, we thought we would fight for European competitions and when we started, it was very frustrating for us.”
On the importance of momentum
“It’s important if we continue winning. If we win one game and lose three or four, in the end it’s nothing. We really need wins, and we have to continue to fight for wins and we have to do this in the next game.”

On attention turning to Brentford
“All the teams here are tough – they have amazing players and are amazing teams. Of course, we have to be humble to understand that we have to be more like a team. We have amazing players, a lot of quality, but we have to give more to achieve our goals.
“All the games are difficult like we saw in the last games, we beat Liverpool, Tottenham and Chelsea, but lost to Bournemouth and Leeds. All the teams here are difficult, and all the games are different, so we have to give our best and play to win all the games.”
On an unusual season
“The new manager has helped us. When Bruno left, of course he did a great job and we played very well with him, and we have to thank him for what we did, but after, we kept one or two months waiting for what happened, and of course our mentality went a little down because we needed stability. We didn’t know what would happen but, of course, when Lopetegui came we had to change our mind and our focus. We had to battle and fight for wins and that’s what we’re doing.”
On the fans sticking with the team
“They are amazing. They are with us, when we lose and when we win. They push us to be better and this is amazing.”
