He came on with just nine minutes remaining of the Carabao Cup victory over the Gills at Molineux, playing in a more advanced winger role, and found the back of the net with the last kick of the game as he doubled Wolves’ advantage and secure a place in the club’s first quarter-final in the competition for 27 years.
Just six days later he was at it again. At Goodison Park on Boxing Day, he came on with half an hour of the game remaining. Tied at 1-1 going into the final moments of the match, wing-back Ait-Nouri charged from one end of the pitch to the other as Wolves counter-attacked and managed to get on the end of Adama Traore’s cross before firing the ball past Jordan Pickford to send the away support into raptures and earn his side’s final three points of 2022.
Ait-Nouri faced tough competition for the award, with Ruben Neves, Jose Sa and Daniel Podence also nominated, but he did enough to secure supporters’ votes.
