The Wolves attacker came off the bench to score the winner against Portugal, which saw South Korea pip Uruguay to second place on goal difference in Group H.
In what was his first appearance of the tournament out in Qatar, Hwang slammed home Son Heung-min’s pass to book a likely date with Brazil in the last 16 on Monday.
That goal made the 26-year-old the first Wolves player to score at the World Cup since Ron Flowers in 1962, when he converted penalties against Hungary and Argentina.

The South Korea win came against a Portugal side which featured Wolves duo Ruben Neves and Matheus Nunes in their starting eleven.
Both were taken off on 65 minutes, before Hwang struck, but Portugal were safely through already and will now face the runner up of Group G.
However, Raul Jimenez and Mexico were eliminated from the 2022 World Cup by the narrowest of margins on Wednesday evening.
The Mexicans beat Saudi Arabia 2-1 on the night, but Poland progressed by virtue of a great goal difference of one.
Like in the previous two group stage games, Jimenez came off the bench, featuring for the final 13 minutes, but he’ll now make his return to Wolverhampton.
