Hwang | On Brighton disappointment, scoring struggles and focusing on wins

Hee Chan Hwang admits he was disappointed not to have helped Wolves in their hunt for Premier League victories as he was given a chance to impress from the start against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday afternoon.

The South Korean insists he is fully focused on Wolves’ next two games rather than his impending departure for the World Cup later this month, and is trying his hardest to put points on the board for his club before he represents his country in Qatar.

On starting against Brighton

“I’ve been waiting eagerly to start. I’ve been preparing for this chance as well as I could, because I know that I have to perform well individually to be able to help the team.

“It’s very disappointing to fall short of producing a good result at home in an important game.”

On the team’s goal struggles

“The most important thing for me as a forward is to score and create goals. My teammates also tell me that goals are what we need, so that has been my aim, but we were on our back foot.

“In moments like that, our boss wants us to be more active to create a link between midfield and attack. We have to defend as a team, but also attack as a team. We were a bit lacking in that area.

“This is something we have to continue to improve. It’s up to the forwards to help the midfield, but the rest of the team also should help the forwards to make runs forward.”

On recent form

“It’s certainly understandable for fans to be worried, but it’s not as if I’m not playing at all. I may not be playing enough minutes, but I’ve been featuring in games regularly.

“I understand the fans’ concerns, but I’ll do the best I can to be at my best, so I hope that they continue to support us.”

On focus before the World Cup

“Results are the most important in these next two games both for me and the team. The most important thing for us is to win and end this difficult stretch.

“We have to prepare ourselves well to produce good results in the next two games.”

On Lopetegui joining as new head coach

“We had a game today, so our focus was on winning this game. He hasn’t joined us yet, but the decision has already been made.

“I haven’t met him yet, so the focus now should be about getting maximum results in the next two games. After that, I’m sure we’ll have had talked more and things will be clearer.”
