Vote | Castore Player of the Month – September 2022

Three Wolves first-teamers have made the shortlist for the Castore Player of the Month award for September, with Ruben Neves, Matheus Nunes and Daniel Podence all in contention.

Following the postponement of Wolves’ visit to Liverpool and this weekend’s international break, it meant Bruno Lage’s men faced just two matches on the pitch during the month and results brought a mixed bag, which included a first win of the Premier League season at home to Southampton before falling to Manchester City at Molineux last weekend.

Having already secured August’s Castore Player of the Month award, Neves is back in contention once again for September following a pair of impressive showings in the centre of the park.

Despite also having the added responsibilities of the captaincy, it has had no impact on the Portuguese’s displays on the park, having the second highest amount of possession, pass succession and tackle count of any Wolves player against Southampton before producing those same numbers against Man City.

As Wolves’ only scorer of the month, Podence has been the main goalscoring threat in gold and black, as his lifted finish against Southampton was enough to secure all three points for his side.

Added to his strike against Leeds United on the opening day of the Premier League campaign, this sees the Portuguese forward at the top of the scoring charts for Wolves so far this season.

Nunes is continuing to impress after making the switch to Wolves last month and registered his first assist of his top-flight campaign against Southampton as his placed a delightful cross into the path of Podence to open the scoring.

After a man of the match showing in the first game of the month, he tried to give Wolves their spark last time out against City, having the second highest dribble count and interceptions of his team, while making the most amount of clearances in the defeat.

The nominees are compiled based on their average rating on sofascore.com over the course of the month’s games.
