Bruno Lage’s side had impressed for much of their opening five Premier League matches of the season, but that first victory remained out of reach until the weekend, when Daniel Podence struck the winner against Southampton. As the full-time whistle went, the Wolves players savoured the moment with Molineux, but now Neves has set his sights on Liverpool this weekend, where he insists the old gold must go with the same attitude they showed against the Saints.
On building on Southampton
“We don’t think about the table to be honest. We had five matches in the Premier League before Saturday. If you look to last season, we were practically the same, so we just look game by game.
“We know we have Liverpool now, a fantastic team, it’s really tough to play against them, but we go again with the same spirit, the same attitude to play our game and try to win the three points like we do every single game.”

On getting that first win
“We’re feeling really good. It was really important to win our first match in the Premier League this season. Of course, we felt the last few games, we were playing well but we didn’t manage to get three points. Saturday was a different game, I think we played OK and controlled the game.
“We just conceded ten minutes in the second-half, they were a bit dangerous, but we controlled the game with the ball, we had chances to score the second one, but really happy for us, for the fans, they deserve this at home, so we’re looking forward to the next one.”
On working hard as a unit
“It’s just work. We need to work on our transitions. We had a lot of chances to score in transitions because they were playing on the attack, but we did well and that’s the attitude we need to have in every single game. Fight for every single ball as if it’s the last one.
“Our players were celebrating a lot at the end because it means a lot for us and I think we showed the attitude and character, against a good team and to suffer. The Premier League is about that, suffering when you need to suffer, and we suffered all together today.”
