Dendoncker praises Wolves' patience

Leander Dendoncker says that belief and patience were the key aspects in Wolves’ ‘special’ Friday evening win over Manchester City at Molineux.

After Ederson’s red card reduced City to ten men early on, the champions took a two-goal lead thanks to Raheem Sterling’s double, only for Wolves to make their numerical advantage count with a stirring comeback which culminated in Matt Doherty scoring the game’s decisive goal in the 89th minute. The Belgian international, who was adjudged to have fouled Riyad Mahrez in the box for City’s first goal, thinks that Wolves defied expectations with the comeback.

On a thrilling match

“It was a special game. At 2-0 down I don’t think a lot of people will have thought that we would come back, but we did it and it’s a very good feeling.

“They (City) are a very good side. Obviously, it was difficult for them, as they got the red card very early, but they managed to score twice. We kept on believing – we created a lot of chances and it took some time to get the goals, but eventually we did it.”

On developing in a back three

“It’s not always easy for me as a midfielder, because it’s always about positioning. Communication is key, and we try to communicate a lot during the game. Coady talks a lot, and I have a good understanding with Romain as well because we both speak French.

“We have a really good understanding, and that is one of our biggest strengths – I think we have to try to keep that going.”
