The Wolves duo played the full 90 minutes of Portugal’s 3-1 semi-final victory over Switzerland on Wednesday night, with Neves playing a vital part in his side’s second goal by pinging one of his trademark passes 50 yards downfield to set up the finish.
Stopper Patricio came agonisingly close to keeping out Ricardo Rodriguez’s spot-kick, when the ball slipped underneath his outstretched left arm. Fellow Wolves stars Joao Moutinho made a cameo appearance off the bench late on in the match, while Diogo Jota, who is still waiting to make his senior debut, was an unused substitute.
Raul Jimenez was also on the right side of a 3-1 result on Wednesday night as he captained Mexico to a Gold Cup warm-up friendly victory over Venezuela in Atlanta, Georgia.
The striker will now hope to be in action once again at 12am on Monday morning for Mexico’s second and final warm-up game against Ecuador in Dallas, Texas.
Connor Ronan featured for the full 90 minutes in Republic of Ireland under-21’s goalless draw with fellow group leaders Mexico in the 2019 Toulon Tournament in France. Currently ahead of their North American rivals on goal difference, Ireland will face their deciding group match against Bahrain on Sunday afternoon.
Other Wolves players who will hoping to be in action this week include Matt Doherty, whose Ireland side face a trip to Denmark in the Euro 2020 qualifiers this evening, and Leander Dendoncker. The Belgian and his teammates welcome Kazakhstan to Heysel Stadium on Saturday night in the same competition.
