Back To Our Best

Matt Doherty believes that Wolves were back to their best during Saturday's 1-0 win over Ipswich Town in the Sky Bet Championship.

Wolves had gone three games without a win in all competitions heading into the fixture at Portman Road but it was Doherty's 15th minute header which ultimately separated the two sides.

Speaking after the game, Doherty admitted that Wolves hadn't been at their best recently, but he felt that Wolves were excellent in the performance against Ipswich

He said, "Our performances lately haven't been out of this world by any means but today we defended really well, we should have scored more goals and I think somebody could be on the end of a few goals coming soon.

"We were back to our best, I thought, at Ipswich!"

On his goal, he said, "I saw Barry get down the line and he always seems to put in a decent cross and I just backed him to stand something up at the back post, managed to get my face in the way and it slid in.

"It was a bit like slow motion - it went down and it was spinning but I could see that it was going in.

"I was just waiting for to hit the net so I could start celebrating to be honest!

"I get in quite good positions, I've missed quite a few chances where it's not fallen my way but today I've managed to get on the scoresheet in a 1-0 win away at Ipswich - you can't beat that really.

"Ipswich is one of the hardest places to come especially away from home - winter, yellow ball, the pitch's a bit boggy and we showed our class today and really put on a good performance."

Following the defeat to Nottingham Forest, the squad travelled out to Spain for a warm weather training camp.

Doherty felt that the camp was beneficial for the team and those benefits showed during the win on Saturday.

There was a bit of fun, we did a lot of work obviously, we were allowed to do our own thing at times which was good," Doherty said.

"It was just a normal week that would have been at the training ground - we had afternoons off where we went and did our own thing, so yeah it definitely helped.

"We obviously went away this week and trained hard, enjoyed ourselves and it was important that we got back to winning ways after last weeks performance.

"It was quite comfortable - it felt really good out there, I felt sharp and I'm sure all of the lads did, that shows in the performance.

"They had a few shots, long range - not much and yeah, it was pretty comfortable"!
