It Was Frustrating For Us

 

Despite dominating possession, Wolves were unable to break down the visitors, who defended resolutely both before and after Lee Cattermole's 62nd-minute red card.

 

The draw brought Wolves' six-match winning streak to an end, but still extended their lead over second-placed Cardiff City, who play on Monday night.

 

After the game, Coady said:

 

"It was frustrating for us. Credit to Sunderland - they came and did the job they wanted to do. They defended well and got bodies in front of the ball and we just couldn't break them down.

 

"We've seen that a few times now, when teams come and sit in against us, and it's up to us to get better at breaking teams down. We had a couple of chances first half that we didn't quite take advantage of, and the message at half time was to step the intensity up.

 

"I think we did that in the second half but sometimes it's tough to break down ten men behind the ball, and we just couldn't do that today.

 

"Teams are going to play like that against us and it's up to us to get better at breaking them down; moving teams from side to side and getting around these situations that are put in our way. I'm sure we will do that."

 

The result extended Wolves' unbeaten run and secured an eleventh clean sheet in 21 matches this season - and Coady underlined the many positives that his side could take forward into Friday's clash with Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.

 

"We want to be winning football matches, and when you don't do that it's disappointing, but it's a point and a clean sheet - a step closer to where we want to be," he said.

 

"We'll get back on the training pitch this week and learn from the game - that's one of the things we've done well this season, learned lessons and moved forward quickly.

 

"Games come thick and fast in this division and we have another one coming up on Friday which everyone is really looking forward to. We want to get back to winning ways."

 

Friday's visit to Sheffield Wednesday and the subsequent home game against Ipswich Town will bring to a close the first half of a season which has seen Wolves earn widespread praise for their style of football, to go along with the points they have consistently accrued.

 

However, Coady is adamant that the impressive start to the campaign needs to be built upon if Wolves are to achieve their ultimate goal this season.

 

"This season has been really good up until now," he continued. "But it's just a platform for where we want to go. We want to keep on kicking on, keep learning, keep getting better and seeing where we go.

 

"We want people to expect good things of us, we want people to come here and be excited and optimistic. Our supporters have that at the minute, so we want to keep playing well, scoring lots of goals and get back to winning ways."
