A superb 25-yard strike from Diogo Jota in the tenth minute was all that separated the two sides over 90 minutes despite Wolves having over two thirds of possession during the game.
Although Aiden O’Brien was sent off for Milwall in the 65th minute for a second booking, Milwall still had chances in the closing stages which Wolves ‘keeper Ruddy was forced to save.
Speaking after the game, Nuno said, “I think we deserved the three points - we always knew that it was going to be a tough match and we knew that they would keep players behind the line of the ball.
“We played a good first half - it was a fantastic goal, it’s a good three points.
“It was a fantastic goal, I think Molineux appreciated it, it was a thing of beauty.
“When they came at us, this was the point that we controlled more of the game - we had more of the ball and we had more chances.
“The possession was there and Milwall didn't create much - we knew the kind of game that it was going to be and we defended well.
“We had a lot of possession but with this possession we need more goals.”
“Sometimes the fans or people who don't necessarily understand may expect a red card to change the game as this could be a time in which the opponent really drops and it allows more space.
“Even though we created enough combinations with the ball inside and outside, some better combinations would create more goals.”
The win is Wolves’ fourth win in the league this season and the sixth in all competitions - the win means that Wolves it third in the Championship table with 13 points from six games.
Nuno, once again thanked the fans for their support at Molineux and he urged them to get behind the team again on Tuesday as he prepares his side to face Bristol City at Molineux (7:45pm).
“I’m happy - three points, this is the most important thing,” he continued.
“Today was what I expect from the team - we played good football and thank you to the fans once again.
“They are our pack - they supported the team, I think they enjoyed the game but expected more goals.
“Sometimes it is important to realise that this is a long, long competition and we have to make points - it is all about the three points today.
“The next game, we expect to see more of the same - each moment is an opportunity to grow, we must play better, we must give our fans more to enjoy but we also have to win.
“Finding the combination of putting everyone all together, this is the big challenge.”
