Foundations Are In Place

Edwards' confidence in Wolves future

Dave Edwards says he believes that the foundations are in place for Wolves to challenge at the top of the Sky Bet Championship next season, and that this is illustrated by the quality of the young players at Paul Lambert's disposal.

Wolves rounded off an up-and-down season with a 1-0 win over Preston at Molineux on Sunday, in what was Edwards' 500th game as a professional.

The three points ensured a 15th-placed finish for Lambert's side, but Edwards thinks that sights should be set far higher next season.

"The building blocks are in place, but what we need is consistency," the Welshman said. "There's the foundation there, and that's what you need. We have good owners, a good manager and great fans, so that's all there to start it off.

"We definitely need additions in the summer and I'm sure everyone will be working hard on that. Then it's all about momentum - if we start next season in the right way and start this club rolling forward, it'll be a very hard thing to stop.

"Everything's is in place for this to be a top club, and everyone is desperate for us to succeed."

Wolves' victory on Sunday was secured by Danny Batth's second-minute header, for which Jordan Graham provided the assist. Bright Enobakhare also impressed, and Edwards says that the number of talented youngsters on Wolves' books can only bode well for next season.

"You can add Connor Ronan and Morgan Gibbs-White to that equation as well," he added. "It really is exciting.

"I see Bright every day in training and trust me, he can be anything he wants to be. I believe that, with his ability, he can play right at the top of the Premier League - he's that good. His performance against Preston deserved a goal and I was disappointed that he didn't get it.

"Jordan's another plus point - he looks like he's never been away. I thought he was magnificent against Preston. When a winger holds their width like that, it means the back four and the midfield two can get the ball out to him and let him work his magic.

"He's like Helder Costa - he makes us a completely different outfit when he's playing - it's great to see him back.

"I think it's a big season for all those players next season. They have bags of ability and can really push on. It's great for this football club to see people coming through the academy and getting out there onto the pitch."
