A Lot Of Work To Do

Paul Lambert says that Wolves have a lot of work to do in the summer following his side’s 1-0 defeat at home to Huddersfield Town.

A first half strike from Isaiah Brown proved the difference between the two sides on a brisk Tuesday night at Molineux.

The game saw the return of Silvio Pereira, Jordan Graham and Joe Mason following long term injuries - Harry Burgoyne was also called up to the starting XI due to an injury in the warm-up to Andy Lonergan.

Lambert found positives in the defeat, but he admitted that a good pre-season is needed.

“I thought that there wasn't much in the game - the goal, Harry (Burgoyne) should have saved it, he knows that himself," he began.

“We lost Andy (Lonergan) in the warm-up and Harry had to come in.

“We had a good chance ourselves in the second half which just didn't fell for us.

“Considering the league positions, I don't think there was too much in the game.

“We’ve got a lot of work to do in the summer, that’s for sure.

“I thought it was great to have Jordan Graham back after being out for a long time, him getting 30 minutes probably gave him a boost.

“Silvio’s just come back following four months out, Morgan’s a 17 year old with a lot of potential and he needs to learn the game, Joe Mason’s just come back from three months out as well and young Harry (Burgoyne) came in as well as we lost Andy Lonergan in the warm-up.

“We’re a young side, we’ll regroup and get the lads together and look to build in the summer.

“The lads have had a long, grueling season and some of them have played nearly every game.

“They've had a lot of games and lot of games in a short space of time, so I thought we needed a little bit of a freshen up.

“It’s about us going forward into next year and to make this club a lot better.”

Wolves have two games remaining this season, the next fixture is a trip to Derby County on Saturday.

Lambert says that he may have one or two more players available for the trip, as Mike Williamson and Nouha Dicko were rested following playing against Blackburn Rovers.

The gaffer couldn't fault his players’ effort and believes that some of his players do need a break.

He said, “We are doing what we can to try and win the game but we’ve had a really hard few months with the amount of games that we've played.

“I can’t fault the lads for their effort and we need a break, there’s no doubt about it - we need some reinforcements to come in and give us a hand.

“We’ll see how everybody feels for Derby, how they feel and how they recover - there’ll be one or two maybe coming back.

“It was probably a game too soon for Mike (Williamson) and Nouha (Dicko) needs a pre-season under his belt.

“We have to watch people as well, you can’t just keep playing the same guys, come Saturday, we’ll see who we’ve got available.”
