It’s An Exciting Place To Be

Williamson has had an injury-hit season and has subsequently only made four appearances for Wolves this season.

Although Wolves are now mathematically safe, Williamson hopes that he can have as much impact as possible between now and the end of the season.

He said, “It’s an exciting place to be - with the new owners and the new Gaffer, I think the mentality is starting to shift and I think it will be an exciting season here next season.

“For me, it’s been an incredibly frustrating period in my career and I haven't really got started in my Wolves career and I’d love the opportunity to stay here and be part of an exciting, young group of players and really set a marker down and prove to the fans what I’m all about over a longer period.

“The manager is very determined to keep the standards high and even though mathematically we’re safe, that wasn't even in our sights - it was all about building the momentum and making sure we keep a winning mindset.

“We wanted to go from one week to another maintaining those standards because over the duration of a season, that’s the toughest part of it - everyone’s going to have peaks and troughs but you cant afford to lose more than two games on the bounce if you want to be fighting up and around the top.

“You still have to make as much impact as possible even when you’re not on the pitch, it’s about the squad mentality and mindset - everyone needs to know their job, be disciplined and be in the right frame of mind to go into each game.

“Especially off the back of five wins, it’s easy for complacency to set in and people to take their foot off the gas.

“I think it’s different now with the Gaffer, he’s very much on our case about keeping the momentum going and the standards high. It’s very important going into next season.”

Williamson is out of contract in the summer but is still hopeful of staying with Wolves.

The 33 year-old believes that with a good pre-season under his belt, he has got a lot more to offer.

“Football itself is a shop window. Whether you've got a contract or you haven’t, clubs can terminate or you can fall out of favour from one game to the next - it’s all about keeping your personal standards high and for me, I’ve had a difficult couple of years,” he began.

“I feel like I’ve come out and had a couple of months of being fit and I’m looking forward to getting a thoroughly good pre season under my belt because that’s exactly what I need.

“It’s not easy to come back after being out of a year and trying to get back into the team as a bit-part player.

“Once I’ve had that pre season and my sharpness and my fitness are up to scratch, I feel like I’ve got a lot to offer.

“The Gaffer mentioned a couple of weeks ago, every single player wants to be in the Premier League.

“We cant be resting on what we’ve done, schedules and mentality have to be right to make sure that we finish as strong as possible personally, professionally and as a group of players.

“There are no easy games in this league and there’s a lot to play frond they'll be fighting.

“For us, we’re motivated and we know that they're going to turn up and be on their game - we’ve got to match that, we’ve got to do all of the basic things and then hopefully our quality can prevail and we can take three points.”
