Kenny Jackett believes Wolves fully deserved the point secured by Danny Batth’s injury time header at table-topping Burnley this afternoon.
After a tight first half Wolves started the second on the front foot and enjoyed plenty of attacking threat only for Burnley to go in front with a clinical header from former Molineux striker Sam Vokes.
The Clarets looked well on course to record a seventh successive victory but instead were left with just a 15th game unbeaten run after Batth powered home a header from Nathan Byrne’s corner.
“I felt we played our part in a very good game,” said Jackett.
“We rode the storm in the first 20 minutes because the atmosphere in the stadium was fantastic and Burnley started at a really good pace.
“We grew as the game went on and were perhaps unfortunate to go 1-0 down but they have that quality in their front players to get goals even when they are not creating many chances.
“Vokes and Gray are possibly the best front two in the division and they are able to come up with a finish and that is one of the big reasons why they are where they are.
“Our two centre backs did very well and stood up to the physical challenge very well.
“We had a chance with Saville down the one end and then a few seconds later they score down the other.
“For us though we more than held our own today and deserved to come away with a draw.
“We kept going after they scored and we didn’t buckle.
“It was a quality cross in from Nathan Byrne for the corner and a quality header from Danny Batth.
“And I felt we more than deserved that point from the chances that we had.
“There were a lot of good performances both individually and then the cohesion of the team.
“We have to work hard now at making the most of the chances that we get and those good situations around the box and being incisive.
“You have to be able to put those chances away and have that cutting edge up front.”
Among the individual performances highlighted by the Head Coach were those of the returning Jed Wallace, and Jack Price.
But Wallace unfortunately limped out of the action in the closing stages after a hugely impressive first game back after a loan with Millwall.
“Jed did very well coming back into the team but has got a thigh strain which is very frustrating,” added Jackett.
“I was very pleased with what he did up until the injury – he played very well.
“We now lose him for a few weeks and a number of players have been in that situation but he is a very promising player for Wolves.
“He showed good pace in the wide right position and looked like he had more in the tank.
“It would be nice if he could have had a really good run between now and the end of the season but hopefully he won’t be out for too long and will be back to build on this performance.
“And I thought Price did very well today and had one of his best games for us, if not the best.
“He was key for us and also came forward and hit the post with a shot.
“That is something he can do more of because he is certainly capable of it.”
The result saw Wolves maintain their 12th place position with eight games remaining, and Jackett is keen to keep the pressure on for the remaining fixtures.
“At times during the course of the season we have looked like we could fall away,” he added.
“Similarly we have had spells in games – and today was one – when we have played good enough football to threaten and move up the table.
“It is a rebuilding season for us whether we like it or not.
“We have to carry on doing as well as we can in these remaining games to give our supporters hope.
“If it is about building strongly for next year then that is what we need to do to make sure we improve.
“We have got a good attitude, good athleticism and good hunger in the squad.
“When you look at the age of the group they are just right to grow together.
“There is the chance now to keep improving and they all need to drive on to do that as individuals and also as a team.
“We have now scrapped out points against Birmingham and Burnley.
“We would love them to be wins and we are aspiring to close the gap on the teams above us.”
