More of the same – that’s the view of loanee Jeremy Helan as he calls for Wolves to repeat their performance at Hull and aims to sign off his loan spell with a flourish.
Wolves head to Leeds United tonight (7.45pm) for the first of their final four Sky Bet Championship fixtures of the season, although for Helan it is just three given he will be ineligible for the final game against parent club Sheffield Wednesday.
Wolves have only lost two of seven games in which the midfielder has figured since arriving from the Owls, and he believes they have shown against some of the division’s top sides that they can be a force to be reckoned with.
“Leeds are a team like us with where they are in the table,” says Helan.
“We showed we can compete with the best teams and need to produce that sort of performance again.
“I think we looked like a team higher up than mid table against Hull.
“We need to compete again like we did against Hull and Burnley and if we do that we have a good chance.
“We did the same against Derby Birmingham, Ipswich, all teams higher up the league.
“There is more in the team and good potential here, I think there is still plenty of room for improvement.
“For me, I want to be as positive as I can over these next three games.
“I want to keep doing the same thing and finish the season on a high.
“As a player, I think you should always be looking higher and looking to help the team and develop.
“I want to play like that every game, and also provide goals and assists.
“I want to be part of a team which shows togetherness and gets results.
“I didn’t play the last two games before Hull and was then back in.
“I came here to play and wanted to show what I can do.
“I think I can give something to the team which is what I tried to do and that is what I will try to do over the next few games.
“I want to be part of a winning team and one which competes against other teams.”
Helan produced one of the fine Wolves individual performances in a battling team performance at promotion-chasing Hull on Friday, only to finish on the losing side thanks to the hosts’ last gasp winner.
“The team, we fought well all the game, but the last minute goal killed us,” he adds.
“Knowing that we were able to fight that away against Hull gives us hope for the future.
“It is always nice to have a good game but better if the team gets three points.
“I just hope personally and collectively we can play the same away against Leeds but this time get a result.
“There was disappointment in the dressing room, but we knew we had challenged them away from home.
“We have to hope to do the same now and I don’t think every week a team will score a last minute goal.
“I think if we play that way every week we will not lose many games.”
Helan played left midfield for most of the game – including providing the assist for Dave Edwards’ goal – ahead of 18-year-old debutant Sylvain Deslandes at left back.
“I thought Sylvain did well,” said Helan.
“It was a tough debut on Sky against Hull and up against players who have been in the Premier League as well as the Championship.
“He did very well.
“We tried to help each other out and had a good partnership.
“My first game in England was against Leicester, who were second in the league at the time.
“So it was the same scenario to be honest.
“It is always nice to see someone making their debut and having a good game.”
