We stepped up

George Saville believes Wolves responded well to defeat at Brentford with a strong performance against Derby on Saturday.

Saville scored both of Wolves' goals as they ran out 2-1 winners over the Rams at Molineux.

Speaking after the game, the midfielder said: “We were poor against Brentford on Tuesday, nobody’s hiding away from that.

“Today we’ve stepped up and we’ve played well. The goal’s helped us to settled down and I think, from that point, we haven’t really looked back.

“We pushed on from there, worked our socks off when we were off the ball and got rewarded when we were on it.

“I couldn’t be happier with the three points.

“Grit, determination, hard work off the ball, hard work every day in training – that’s what we have to do and stick together as a team.

“The boys have been brilliant – we’ve had a tough patch, we’ve worked hard, we’ve lost games where we maybe shouldn’t have lost them and we’ve drawn games when we probably could have stolen a win.

“Today we’ve got the win and we’ve deserved it as well. We played good football and we were the better team on the day so hopefully that can stand us in good stead."

Saville has started four of Wolves' last five games and revealed that his close network of support has helped him to remain mentally strong.

"I’ve never doubted myself. It’s been a tough year for me going out on loan twice and not coming into the team.

"I’ve played a few games now, started the last four or five and I’ve hopefully showed the supporters what I’m capable of.

“You have to be mentally strong, it’s tough going out on loan and not thinking you’re good enough to get into the team.

“You have to block a few things out, you’ve got to stay strong, keep working hard and anything can happen.

“That comes from yourself, your family around you and your friends. I have great support around me.

“It’s what you need in tough times and, when the good times like today come around, you can enjoy it with them.

“I’m delighted. I know it’s cliché but you can’t do it without the support you get.

“They’re pushing me and helping me through the tough times and they then deserve the good times with you."
