Wolves 2 (Strand Larsen 42, Munetsi 45+4) Burnley 3 (Flemming 14, 30, Foster 90+5)
Wolves suffered more late heartbreak against Burnley at Molineux, as their frustrating wait for a Premier League win continued.
Zian Flemming netted twice inside half an hour to give Scott Parker’s side the perfect start, before Jorgen Strand Larsen and Marshall Munetsi restored parity before the break.
Wolves rallied in search of a winner in the second half, coming close on several occasions, however it was Lyle Foster who snatched all three points for the visitors in stoppage time.
The visitors ascended onto the front foot and provided an early scare for Wolves when Josh Cullen struck a volley goalwards, but Sam Johnstone was equal to the effort.
The hosts soon responded with chances of their own. Rodrigo Gomes had only eyes for goal when he dispossessed Axel Tuanzebe inside the Wolves half, but the winger could only find Martin Dubravka with his tame effort.
Despite Wolves’ upturn in momentum, the visitors took the lead against the run of play. Quilindschy Hartman switched play with an inch-perfect cross-field pass for Flemming to meet and side-foot a volley past Johnstone into the far bottom corner.
The game became scrappy, with Burnley capitalising on the chaos. Hartman and Flemming linked up again, with the latter notching his second of the afternoon to double the Clarets’ advantage.
Wolves continued to create chances in the first half, but nothing seemed to fall into place for the Old Gold. Munetsi was next to sting Dubravka’s palms, meeting Andre’s neatly clipped pass with a headed effort.
Half-time edged closer and Wolves looked set to head into the break two goals down. However, after Santiago Bueno was fouled inside the area, captain Strand Larsen stepped up to spark hope from the spot.
Moments later, Pereira’s side clawed back another to draw level. Jean Ricner-Bellegarde, surrounded by Burnley defenders, did brilliantly to dig out a delivery that was met by Ladislav Krejci, who acrobatically set up Munetsi to head home from close range.
Half-time | Wolves 2-2 Burnley
The visitors started the second half brightly, carving out early opportunities. Flemming was first to test Johnstone with a curling strike from inside the area, before Cullen unleashed a vicious volley - both efforts met by strong saves from the Wolves goalkeeper.
Bellegarde, superb throughout, did brilliantly to draw a free-kick 20 yards from goal. Arias stood over the dead ball and whipped a fierce strike against the woodwork, inches away from giving Wolves their first lead of the game.
Wolves looked threatening approaching the final stages, with both Hugo Bueno and Strand Larsen going close, but neither chance found the back of the net.
Opportunities continued to fall for the hosts as they pressed for a late winner. Bellegarde tried his luck from range with a neat volley, but Dubravka was equal to the effort once more, turning the effort to safety.
However, frustration began to creep in, and with Wolves committing men forward, Burnley struck decisively. Hannibal Mejbri played Foster through on goal, and the striker lifted an effort over Johnstone to restore the visitors’ lead.
Santiago Bueno came agonisingly close to equalising with the final kick of the game, but Dubravka produced another superb save to somehow deny the Uruguayan at the death.
