Neto dedicates Gunners goal to Raul

Pedro Neto dedicated his goal against Arsenal and Wolves’ first victory away at the Gunners for 41 years to teammate Raul Jimenez, saying: “We wanted to win the game for him.”

Although the forward did not see the severe injury to his teammate occur, he said he was shocked to see the result of the collision on Jimenez, who was left motionless on the ground, and has now been treated in hospital for a fractured skull.

But Neto and Wolves battled on after the early injury, with the 20-year-old scoring his third goal of the season to help his side to the three points.

On the impact of Jimenez’s injury on the squad

“At the beginning we were a little bit worried because the images that I saw with him on the ground was not easy and it was bad to see.

“I didn’t see the impact, I only heard the impact, and it was very hard seeing him on the ground like that. It was shocking, but I hope that he is ok and that he can recover to come back with us.”

On winning for Raul

“We did what Raul would have wanted. Seeing him unconscious on the floor was bad, but we had to try to focus 100 per cent on the game.

“We wanted to end the game, we wanted to win the game for him, and we wanted to get this victory for him, so I think the whole team would like to dedicate this win for him.

“It was a special day for us, but Raul is a great teammate and we pray that he is ok.”

On first win at Arsenal since 1979

“I didn’t know that, but it was very good and it was good to enjoy the game, and it was important that we enjoy the game that we played today – it was amazing, and we are very happy.

“It’s always good to come back to win, and with this game, we have done that and even better.

“We have done a very good game, a very consistent game, the way that we play, the way that we show our hard work is unbelievable and we deserved the three points.”

On third goal of the season

“I work hard every day to do better and better, so I’m very happy to help the team again, and I’m looking forward to the next one.”

On closing the gap at the top

“Of course, we are happy to win and be at sixth in the table, but we’re continuing to work day by day, training session after training session, game by game.

“We are focused to win all the games, but after that we will see what happens at the end of the season.”
