Nuno Espirito Santo provided an update on Willy Boly, Diogo Jota and Morgan Gibbs-White’s injuries ahead of the Newcastle United fixture.
The head coach provided mixed news on his squad’s injuries and insists work is ongoing as Wolves look to bolster their group in the January transfer window. Morgan Gibbs-White has been out of action since October with a back injury, so a return to the squad against Newcastle would be welcome for Nuno’s group.
On mixed injury news
“Boly and Diogo are the bad ones. The good one – Morgan is back. He’s integrated into training sessions, so he’ll be available.”
On Boly’s recovery
“He’s progressing well, he’s improving, but we still have the respect the dates and timings of his progression. It’s good to have him back on the grass and running. He’s not integrating 100 percent into the team, but hopefully sooner rather than later.”
On Jota’s problems
“He had a strong impact, fluid and blood on the injury, he’s going to be scanned again next week. After the scan we wait and determine better his return.”
On possible incomings
“We’re working on that. We have the to. A lot of rumours, a lot of names, not only linked with Wolves, all the clubs – most of them are not true.
“It’s a reality, we need to bring players and we will bring players. It needs time, needs proper decisions for us to bring players that can really help us and bring different characteristics to our squad.”
On transfers and injuries linking
“You cannot avoid circumstances that happen. It’s the reality, we have to evaluate what we have, the squad, what and how we want to proceed competing and that has a final weight on the decisions you make, the circumstances.
“We have Boly and Diogo out, so we have to consider all the situations, Jesus and Patrick, so all the circumstances make you take the decisions.”
On bringing versatile players
“That’s the job of us as managers, to find solution. All the clubs have the same situations, it’s up to us to find the better ones that all the team to compete well.
“Of course, we have versatile players that can help us in numerous situations, but positions are so specific, we have to clearly bring someone.”
