From the treatment room with Phil Hayward

After the first week of the Premier League season, Wolves head of medical Phil Hayward provides wolves.co.uk with an injury update on Nuno’s squad.

We had a good pre-season in terms of injuries with only minor issues leading to the occasional missed day of training, but on the whole the summer passed without significant injuries.

One player who had an issue during the first week of the season was Ivan Cavaleiro. Unfortunately, Cav has had an issue with his back which he felt had been restricting his play for a few weeks.

After trying to manage the issue, we decided that the best decision to completely solve the problem was to remove him from training and focus fully on his rehab for a few weeks.

We have started the period of rehabilitation and he is responding well. Without wanting to put a definitive timescale on things, I would suggest the early response has been good and we can expect to see him back training sooner rather than later.

It was a shame to see Harry Burgoyne injured when out on loan at Plymouth. Harry unfortunately fractured his right fibula during pre-season training and will be out for around four months.

He is back with us and is responding very well to the early treatment. He’ll continue his rehabilitation at Compton Park and return to Plymouth when back fit.
