Career in pictures | Angel Gomes

A product of the Manchester United academy, Angel Gomes now arrives at Molineux with Champions League and international experience. Below, wolves.co.uk looks at the key stages of his journey to becoming an Old Gold player.

29th October 2016 | Angel Gomes progressed through each stage of the England youth system, all the way to the senior team. The youngster is pictured here with the under-17s, alongside the likes of Jadon Sancho and Phil Foden.

21st May 2017 | The midfielder made his senior Manchester United debut in the Premier League as a substitute for Wayne Rooney against Crystal Palace at Old Trafford. United won the game 2-0 – one of ten games he played for the first-team.

19th September 2019 | Gomes brings experience of the Champions League and Europa League from his time in Manchester and France. He’s seen in action as a youngster against FK Astana at Old Trafford – a match United won 1-0.

7th January 2020 | The midfielder’s first experience of a Manchester derby came in the Carabao Cup semi-final. Gomes replaced Dan James as a substitute; however City prevailed to reach the final.

29th September 2021 | Gomes swapped Manchester for Lille in 2020 and quickly established himself in their midfield, following a successful loan at Boavista. He’s pictured in action against FC Red Bull Salzburg at the Stadion Wals-Siezenheim.

8th July 2023 | Gomes won the 2023 Under-21 Euros with England. He lifted the trophy with former Wolves man Morgan Gibbs-White and James Garner, after the Three Lions had beaten Spain 1-0 in the final in Georgia. Gomes started all but one match on the way to winning silverware.

11th April 2024 | Gomes then found a new home at Lille, where he played 134 times. He’s seen here in Europa Conference quarter final action against Aston Villa. Villa won on the night and Lille in France, but the Premier League side progressed via a penalty shootout, despite Gomes converting his spot kick.

7th September 2024 | After progressing through the England system, Gomes was handed his first senior call up by interim head coach Lee Carsley. He made his debut against the Republic of Ireland in the Nations League, when the Three Lions won 2-0. He made three further appearances that autumn.

5th November 2024 | Gomes continued to add to his to his Champions League experience against Juventus in November 2024. The England international played in the ‘number 10’ role in a 1-1 draw at the Stade Pierre Mauroy.

21st January 2026 | Gomes has spent the first half of this season at Marseille and is seen here arriving for a Champions League clash with Liverpool at the Stade de Marseille. The midfielder played 20 times before making his move to Molineux.
