Wolves turn their focus to the Carabao Cup on Tuesday, with fellow Premier League side Everton visiting Molineux, and below wolves.co.uk presents all the pre-match talking points.
1 | Roll Call
Jorgen Strand Larsen’s return to the pitch for the second half on Saturday means Vitor Pereira has no injury concerns ahead of the Carabao Cup tie. Ki-Jana Hoever also made a matchday squad for the first time since the second week of the season on Saturday. The head coach will now decide if to make changes to his 11 following Saturday’s defeat, with the likes of Sam Johnstone, Santiago Bueno and Jhon Arias featuring in the previous round against West Ham United.
Vitalii Mykolenko returned to Everton’s starting line up as their only change on Saturday. Jarrad Branthwaite is yet to feature this season due to injury, but on Friday David Moyes said he was “making progress” so may make his return at Molineux. Summer signing Merlin Rohl picked up a minor knock in training last week, and missed the derby with Liverpool.

3 | Journey to Tuesday
Wolves’ only win of the 2025/26 season was a stirring comeback against West Ham in the previous round of the Carabao Cup. Rodrigo Gomes’ opener was cancelled out by a Hammers fightback in the second period, but Strand Larsen came off the bench to score twice in the final ten minutes and send his side through. Life in the Premier League has been much tougher, however, with Saturday’s 3-1 defeat to Leeds United the club’s fifth successive reverse to begin the league season.
Everton’s second ever game at the Hill Dickinson Stadium was the second round Carabao Cup win over League One side Mansfield Town. Carlos Alcaraz and Beto scored in the second half to send the Blues into the third round. Saturday’s narrow defeat in the Merseyside derby won’t have damped spirits too much after a positive start for the Toffees, who’ve taken seven points from the first 15 available and won at Molineux last month.
4 | Signing off from 2023 in style
Wolves’ last victory over Everton came in the final game of 2023 at Molineux. Captain Maximilian Kilman had put Gary O’Neil’s side in front at Molineux, before Matheus Cunha turned home Hee Chan Hwang’s low cross for 2-0. The Brazilian then turned provider soon after, crossing for Craig Dawson to add a third for the Old Gold. The win was a third on the spin for Wolves, who entered 2024 in a positive frame of mind.
