Preview | Bournemouth vs Wolves

Wolves’ first away game of the season sees Vitor Pereira’s side head to the south coast on Saturday afternoon for a Premier League outing against Bournemouth, and wolves.co.uk has previewed what is in store for the Old Gold.

1 | Roll Call

With an almost fully fit squad at his disposal, Pereira will have lots of decisions to make as to what team he lines up with on Saturday afternoon following opening day defeat to Manchester City. Summer signings Jhon Arias and Fer Lopez started on the bench last time out, while it is yet to be seen if latest addition to the pack Jackson Tchatchoua will be ready to slot straight in at right wing-back, or if Ki-Jana Hoever keeps hold of his space after an assured showing six days ago. Yerson Mosquera has been in full training this week and could make his first appearance since last September after recovering from a serious knee injury.

Andoni Iraola could see his squad boosted with some new and returning faces who weren’t part of the squad for last week’s visit to Anfield when Bournemouth host Wolves this weekend. Ryan Christie is back in training following injury, but the game might still be too soon for Justin Kluivert, but a place on the bench might not be out of the running. New arrivals to the Vitality this week include Scottish youngster Ben Doak from Liverpool as well as former Bayer Leverkusen forward Amine Adli who could be put straight into the squad for this weekend. Enes Unal and Lewis Cook remain long-term injuries for the Cherries.

3 | Journey to Saturday

Following a pre-season which saw Wolves travel to face Girona in Spain, while also play three matches in the West Midlands against Stoke City, RC Lens and Celta Vigo, the Old Gold got their Premier League campaign underway last weekend at Molineux against Manchester City. Despite a positive start against City, which saw Marshall Munetsi put the ball in the back of the net before being denied an opening goal of the season by the offside flag, the visitors asserted their dominance as they capitalised on mistakes to claim a 4-0 victory.

Bournemouth’s pre-season saw Iraola’s side claim wins over Hibernian and Everton, before defeats to Manchester United and West Ham United in the USA, before two draws against Real Sociedad in their double-header, putting the side in positive spirits heading into the Premier League campaign. A visit to last season’s champions Liverpool gave the Cherries the toughest start to the new year, but Antoine Semenyo’s brace almost secured a point Bournemouth after they fought from two goals down, however, Liverpool struck twice late on to secure all three points.

4 | Wolves on top in the first Premier League meeting

Wolves’ Premier League visits to Bournemouth have been happy affairs over the last seven years, as the Old Gold have been able to claim three wins and two draws from their five top flight games at the Vitality.

The last Premier League meeting between the sides came just six months ago as Pereira’s side walked away with all three points thanks to Matheus Cunha’s only goal of the game. Illia Zabarnyi's first-half dismissal proved costly for the Cherries who started the afternoon with hopes of moving into the top four.

But Cunha’s goal – which saw the Brazilian lift the ball over Kepa Arrizabalaga when Dean Huijsen failed to clear a Nelson Semedo cross – instead condemned Bournemouth to only their second defeat since the previous November, while opening up a five-point gap to the bottom three for Wolves.

Bournemouth | Arrizabalaga, Cook, Zabarnyi, Huijsen, Kerkez, Christie (Adams 61), Hill (Brooks 61), Tavernier, Kluivert (Scott 71), Semenyo, Ouattara (Jebbison 89).

Wolves | Sa, Semedo, Doherty, Bueno (Djiga 72), Toti, Ait-Nouri (Lima 80), Andre, J. Gomes (Strand Larsen 45), Bellegarde (Sarabia 80), Munetsi, Cunha (Doyle 89).
