Away From the Action | Jose Sa

Goalkeeper Jose Sa discusses life Away From the Action at Molineux and Compton Park, exploring how he keeps relaxed and some of his favourite activities.

What do you like to do away from football?

Just chilling with my family. I like to go on walks or sometimes we go out for dinner. Nothing too crazy. Me and my wife, we are very similar people who like to be at home, watching TV and relax. Sometimes we will go out, but nothing too special.

Do you watch football outside of Wolves?

Not too much. It depends on the games. Last year I saw a lot of Premier League games, but that’s not too normal. Maybe it was because I was new to the league, I enjoyed the football here and I was very happy to play here, so I wanted to see more of it to give me a better understanding.

Are there any other sports you like to play?

I like to play padel, but there’s not too many places to play that here. I don’t really play any other spot apart from that and football. Sometimes we play head tennis in Compton.

Is there one sport or activity you wish you could try?

Not really. I like to go swimming but not here in England. It’s much too cold! Maybe not another sport, but I would like to be a singer.

Are you quite active during your downtime?

It depends on how I feel at the time. Sometimes, yes, sometimes no. If I’ve had quite a hard day then I just like to relax and not do too much. Sometimes I will go for a walk with my family. I have two dogs but they are back in Portugal – all I have here are cats.

Where do you like to visit during time off?

Here it would be London. We like to go there because it’s big and there are a lot of things to do. If I have longer time, then we will go back to Portugal and see our families.

Which teammates would be the best and worst to spend downtime with?

There are a lot I like to spend time with. Pedro Neto, Nelson [Semedo], they are all my good friends. All the players are good to be with, but they are the guys I have more in common with and our families are also friends, so normally I would be with them.

Do you spend time with your teammates away from Compton?

Our wives, girlfriends and kids also spend a lot of time with each other, so getting together with the other players is an important part of our lives here. We do a lot of parties, usually when it’s somebody’s birthday or big events. They’re usually fancy dress as we all like to dress up!

Is there a specific restaurant or café that you like to visit?

Here in Wolverhampton, there is only one – Fiume. We all really enjoy going there and it’s a good restaurant. Sometimes we go out in Birmingham.

How much have you explored Wolverhampton?

Quite a lot, but it’s quite easy as there’s not a lot to really explore. It’s a small city, but we enjoy being here as it’s quiet and can be private with our families.
