Home and Away | Raul Jimenez

In the latest edition of Home and Away, Wolves forward Raul Jimenez reveals six football stadiums which have defined his career.

DEBUT GROUND

Estadio Azteca

As a professional, my first game was in the Estadio Azteca for Club America, and it’s also the national team stadium. It’s a very big stadium with a lot of people there, and for my first game, I had about 70,000 people watching me in the stadium, so it was impressive, amazing, and I really enjoyed playing there.

WOLVES HOME DEBUT

Molineux

It was amazing. It was a friendly match against Villarreal, but it felt like a Premier League game. The stadium was full of people, we won, I scored in my first match here, and I was really happy. When all the crowd and all the people are there supporting us, it’s amazing.

FAVOURITE AWAY GROUND

Anfield

I like Anfield because of its history. I think it’s one of the most historic and important ground here in England and I really like playing there. Like Molineux, they have a really good atmosphere too and they have a lot of supporters who get behind their team.

MOST DIFFICULT AWAY GROUND

Estadio do Dragao

In Portugal, when I was at Benfica, we would play against Sporting and Porto, the two main rivals there, and it was very difficult to go to their stadiums and play a good match because all the time they are shouting at you while you’re just trying to do your best. They were both difficult, but I think Porto was worse.

BIGGEST GROUND PLAYED AT

Wembley

Estadio Azteca is big, but I’ve also played at Wembley, which is huge. It was amazing to play there, first at the Olympics in 2012, and then two seasons ago against Tottenham and in the FA Cup, so it holds a lot of good memories. I also remember going to be Maracana in Brazil with Mexico, but I can’t remember if I played!

GROUND OF MOST IMPORTANT GAME

Estadio Azteca

Two of the most important games for me were both in Estadio Azteca. The first was my first ever start for Club America and another which was at that stadium was when I scored a bicycle kick for Mexico, so that’s the most significant stadium for me, as it was my home with Club America and it’s my home with my national team.
