Lee Naylor to be inducted into Old Gold Club

Academy graduate and play-off final hero Lee Naylor will be the latest former Wolves star to experience his induction into the Old Gold Club.

The left back, who joined the club at just 10-years-old, went on to make more than 520 appearances as a professional in England and Scotland and is set to become the 16th inductee when he appears as the special guest on this week’s episode of the club’s popular podcast.

Naylor will discuss his time as a first-team player Molineux as well as the years he spent as a young player with the club when he joins regular hosts Mikey Burrows and Chris Iwelumo during a half hour Facebook and YouTube video, before an extended podcast is released on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and all the usual podcast apps.

As the latest inductee into Old Gold Club, sponsored by Wolverhampton Building Supplies, the 38-year-old will also reflect on his time as a young striker before he was converted into a defender while at the Academy.

After making the step up to the senior Wolves side as a 17-year-old, Naylor played more than 330 times in gold and black – and scored nine goals – during a nine-year spell at Molineux.

The former England under-21 international was a key member of the Wolves side of the late 90s and early noughties and was part of the team under Dave Jones which lifted the Division One play-off final trophy following a 3-0 victory over Sheffield United at the Millennium Stadium – sealing Wolves place in the Premier League for the first ever time.

Naylor was Wolves’ only ever-present performer in the 2003/04 Premier League season and remained at the club for two further years following relegation before moving across the border to Celtic.

The latest Old Gold Club will be broadcast on Facebook and YouTube from 6pm this evening, while the full podcast will be available on all the regular channels afterwards.

The first 15 episodes of the podcast with Carl Ikeme, Kenny Hibbitt, Tony Daley, Terry Connor, Scott Golbourne, Karl Henry, David Kelly, Ally Robertson, Jack Price, Matt Jarvis, Matt Murray, Don Goodman, John Richards, George Elokobi and Seyi Olofinjana are also available to listen back to by clicking here.
