Wolves Esports have been crowned Call of Duty Mobile World Champions 2023 in Atlanta, USA claiming the $400,000 grand prize.
It’s been a successful year for the Chinese team as they won a number of titles including - China Masters Season 5, Snapdragon Pro Series Season 3 and the Call of Duty Mobile Fall Invitational.
So, confidence levels were high coming into the World Championship and, after finishing fourth last year the team were looking to not only better that record but take home the title.
The best teams from across the world gathered in Atlanta to find out who is the world number one. North America was widely considered as being the strongest region especially with the two-time world champions Tribe Gaming, who knocked Wolves out last year, and the tournament favourites Luminosity Gaming.
The tournament saw Wolves rampage their way through the Swiss stage dropping just a single map in the process.
However, the playoffs were when the world witnessed just how good the team is as they charged their way to the grand final without dropping a single map and settling a few old scores along the way.
They took down Tribe Gaming 3-0 in the quarterfinals to avenge their defeat to the North American team last year. They then knocked out fellow Chinese team Q9 in a dominating 3-0 fashion, getting their revenge for their defeat in the China Masters Season 6 grand final just a few months ago.
The unexpected opponent waiting in the final were the underdogs from India, GodLike, who had made a fantastic run themselves beating the favourites, Luminosity Gaming, along the way to claim their spot against Wolves.
Maps were traded back and forth until Wolves finally pulled away to take the series 4-2 and claim the title as Call of Duty Mobile World Champions.
Claire Teng, General Manager of Wolves Esports, said “We knew what we were capable of, and we held the belief we will become world champions right from the very start. We had the right mentality, we prepared fully and we respected each of our opponents and the result was us claiming the title and only dropping three maps in the process.
“The goal now is to continue to dominate every competition we enter and come back to retain our title next year.”
