Wolves involved in Premier League scheme to support under-represented coaches

Wolves are taking part in the Premier League’s 2021/22 Coach Inclusion and Diversity Scheme designed to increase the diversity of football coaches in the professional game.

As part of the Premier League’s commitment to improve diversity and make coaching more representative of society and the playing population, the club will be supported to provide a high-quality personal development work placement to an individual from an under-represented group within the football industry.

The scheme is open to individuals from black, Asian and mixed heritage backgrounds, including women from all backgrounds.

As one of the select category one clubs to be partnering with the Premier League on the scheme, Wolves aim to identify a high potential coach to undergo a 23-month rotational work experience and development opportunity, so they can become highly employable within the professional game.

Zoe Brough, Wolves HR director, said: “We believe that having greater diversity helps the whole club to perform better both on and off the pitch.

“We are therefore actively encouraging coaches from under-represented groups to embrace the opportunity to aspire to coach in the professional game, so that football at all levels better represents the wider community in which it serves and is played and enjoyed.”

The placement will be based at Wolves Academy and will include coaching and observation across the foundation, youth development and professional development phases, as well as the first-team environment.

As part of their time on the Scheme, the selected coach will also enrol on the Premier League’s Coach Development Institute Programme (CDIP), which includes mentoring, workshops, peer learning, projects and the chance to achieve FA and UEFA qualifications.

Marc Canham, Premier League head of coaching, added: “Premier League football is a diverse sport which brings together communities and cultures from all backgrounds.

“This diversity has made the game stronger on the pitch and it is vital that we ensure this is reflected across all areas of the game.

“The Premier League is committed to working in partnership with clubs and all football partners to increase the number of coaches from under-represented groups at both academy and senior levels of the game.

“This scheme builds on the previous coach development programmes delivered by the Premier League in partnership with Premier League and category one clubs. It provides further opportunities for clubs and individual coaches to create inclusive and diverse environments within the coaching workforce, which better represents the diversity of football and society.”

Applications for the Premier League Coach Diversity and Inclusion Scheme placement with Wolves must be received before 5pm on 14th July 2021.
