The Premier League’s Inside Matters initiative will be visible at all matches this weekend, including Brighton & Hove Albion against Wolves, to help raise awareness of mental health, encourage supporters to look after their wellbeing and take the time to check in on others.
According to NHS data, one in four people will experience a mental health problem each year, yet many delay seeking help or opening up to others. The League and clubs will use this period to help promote positive conversations around mental wellbeing, highlighting how simple, everyday actions can help people feel more connected, positive and supported.
The Premier League is asking fans to use their shared passion for football as a route to talk about how they are feeling. Premier League players including AFC Bournemouth’s Tyler Adams, Chelsea’s Joao Pedro and Manchester United’s Senne Lammens have backed the initiative by calling friends and family to check-in on them and their wellbeing.
Content available on the Premier League Inside Matters Hub will enable fans to learn different ways in which they can support conversations around mental health, while they can also create their own NHS Every Mind Matters Mind Plan to get free, personalised suggestions to help boost their mental wellbeing.
A new animation, highlighting the NHS Five Steps to Mental Wellbeing – connect with others, be physically active, learn something new, give to others, and pay attention to the present moment – has also been shared as part of the initiative. Supporters will see these themes reflected in content on the Inside Matters Hub, as well as being able to access information on services for those who might need additional mental health support.
Premier League Chief Executive, Richard Masters, said: “Football brings people together in a way few things can. It creates unique connections and a sense of belonging, through unifying moments, whether watching from the stands or at home.
“Through Inside Matters, we are encouraging fans to check in on those around them and offer their support, sometimes a simple conversation can make a big difference for people who are struggling.
“We hope that with the League and our clubs highlighting Inside Matters this weekend, we can help reduce the stigma around mental health, provide positive spaces for discussion and signpost fans to information that can support their wellbeing.”
Inside Matters is part of the Premier League and clubs’ broader work to integrate mental health and wellbeing into key policies and practices, supporting players, fans, communities and schools.
More than 10,000 participants aged five to 18 involved in the Premier League Primary Stars, Premier League Kicks or Premier League Inspires community programmes have engaged in mental health-focused sessions delivered by football club charities this season.
The League launched Together Against Suicide in September 2025 in conjunction with Samaritans, as a new way to support fans affected by suicide or suicidal thoughts and helping raise awareness of the information and expertise available to those who need it most. The League also launched a pilot project, funding 11 clubs to provide bespoke support for fans at home matchdays across the 2025/26 season. The Department of Health and Social Care has teamed up on Together Against Suicide as part of Government’s first Men’s Health Strategy for England, helping tackle stigma around the issue.
Secretary of State for Health and Social Care Wes Streeting, said: “Too many people still struggle in silence with their mental health, and we know that a simple conversation can be the first step to turning things around. That’s why this Government is working with the Premier League - because it helps us reach millions of people in a way that feels natural, trusted and part of everyday life.
“Football has an unrivalled ability to bring people together, and through Inside Matters we’re using that platform to get people talking, checking in on their mates, and taking small, practical steps to look after their wellbeing. I encourage everyone to go to the NHS's Every Mind Matters website to get a free, personalised Mind Plan.
“This is exactly the kind of initiative we need to shift the dial on mental health – meeting people where they are, breaking down stigma, and making sure that support is visible, accessible and within reach for everyone who needs it.
