Molineux to pay tribute to Diogo Jota

Wolves will pay tribute to Diogo Jota and his younger brother André at Molineux both this Saturday and ahead of the first game of the Premier League season the following weekend.

Before Saturday’s pre-season friendly with Celta Vigo, the club will remember the brothers, who tragically passed away this summer, before larger scale tributes will surround the Manchester City fixture on Saturday 16th August.

Supporters are asked to arrive at their seats early, before the tributes begin with a minute’s silence before kick-off. Floral wreaths will then be laid down by senior club personnel during the final moments before kick-off.

The following weekend, which brings the first competitive Wolves fixture since Diogo’s passing, the occasion will be dedicated to a hugely popular figure both on and off the pitch during his three-year spell with the club.

In the wake of Diogo’s passing, the Old Gold Pack began fundraising to support the tributes at the Man City game, and the final product will be a moving tifo which will be displayed in the South Bank ahead of the 5.30pm kick-off.

Fan mosaics will fill the South Bank further pre-match, while a minute’s applause will take place once the players have entered the pitch. During the final moments before kick-off, Diogo’s favourite song, Sting’s Fields of Gold, will play over the Molineux speakers, providing a fitting final tribute.

A commemorative 100-page programme will also be produced for the fixture (click here to pre-order), with a series of features, interviews and tributes dedicated to a special footballer, who has since been inducted into the club’s Hall of Fame.

Work is also ongoing for more permanent tributes to Diogo at Molineux. Following his passing, the Billy Wright Statue on Waterloo Road became a moving and powerful tribute to both Diogo and his brother.

From that display, all non-perishable items were carefully stored, with a selection due to be displayed in perpetuity at the Wolves Museum, in a new, permanent tribute to Diogo.

The floral tributes left by fans were also gathered, with selected flower heads currently in the process of being turned into ink, which will be used in the creation of a further artistic tribute. The remaining flowers were composted and will be used across the club’s many green sites at Compton Park and Molineux.
