In a very special episode of Wolves Unpacked, head coach Vitor Pereira joins Dave Edwards and James Bird to analyse the tactics he's implemented during his time at Molineux.
The latest episode of an unmissable Official Wolves Podcast invites the Portuguese to take a deep analytical dive into his tactical intricacies with legendary Old Gold midfielder Edwards and Bird, a lifelong Wolves supporter and editor in chief of football magazine MUNDIAL.
Pereira explains how he was able to turn Wolves' fortunes around so quickly following his appointment in late December, and reveals which parts of his tactical ideas he had to select from and put across to the players with just three training sessions ahead of his opening game in charge away at Leicester.
The head coach, who reiterated the importance of having a squad of players who are mentally open to new ideas from the coaches, as well as having the physical ability to be able to translate those onto the pitch, also shares why the increased feeling of togetherness not just in the squad but across the fanbase and the city has played such a big role in the team's improved performances.
There is also chat about how Pereira wants his players to play a tactical game rather than an emotional game, which he explains can sometimes happen when the supporters want the team to play fast, but can also lead to his players losing control of a match, and why a slow tempo can be beneficial.
Edwards and Pereira also have interesting discussions about some of the specific tactical moments of Wolves' season, including how the team specifically set up to invite pressure from Manchester City in their match at the Etihad last month, and how the introduction of Emmanuel Agbadou has allowed the team to play in a different way defensively.
All this and more can be found on the latest episode of the Official Wolves Podcast: Wolves Unpacked, which is available on all of the usual podcast providers.
