Neves and George claim 2022/23 awards double

Ruben Neves and Tammi George were the big winners of Wolves’ 2022/23 End of Season Awards, with the midfield pair picking up two trophies each.

Following full-time of Wolves’ final home Premier League fixture of the season, both the men’s and women’s first-team players were celebrated on the Molineux turf for their efforts on and off the pitch during the campaign.

Ahead of the players undertaking a lap of appreciation around the pitch, the End of Season Awards were presented, with six prizes handed out in front of supporters – including four awards voted for by the fans on wolves.co.uk.

Supporters voted for Neves as their men’s Player of the Season following an impressive season in gold and black as the Portuguese international took on the captain’s responsibility.

The midfielder also leads the way as Wolves’ top scorer, tied on six goals in the top-flight with Daniel Podence, while also showing his consistency throughout the campaign, having been nominated for all but one Castore Player of the Month awards, winning three times.

As well as receiving accolades from the fans, Neves also picked up the Players’ Player of the Season gong as his teammates recognise the impact he has made in his sixth season in gold and black.

Supporters also voted for the men’s Goal of the Season award. Despite only scoring 30 goals in the top-flight this season, when Wolves have found the back of the net, it’s been in spectacular fashion – as seen in the stunning strikes up for contention.

But having been voted Premier League goal of the month for April, Matheus Nunes’ magical volley against Chelsea was chosen by Wolves supporters as their favourite effort from Julen Lopetegui’s men.

Neves’ women’s counterpart George was also the big winner of the end of season awards, as she was picked up both prizes as voted for by supporters.

The dynamic midfielder has been an electric presence in the centre of the park once again for Dan McNamara’s side, earning her the women’s Player of the Season award, while her outstanding long-range shot against Northampton Town saw George win the Goal of the Season title.

In another successful season for the women’s first-team, who agonisingly missed out on a second successive league title having finished being Northern Premier Division champions Nottingham Forest on goal difference, McNamara’s side ended the campaign with silverware with the girls lifting the Birmingham County Cup in front of thousands of spectators at Molineux.

With George having been voted as Player of the Season by fans, it was her defensive teammate Anna Morphet who was selected by her teammates for the Players’ Player of the Season, after not only being a rock at the back, she is also not scared of finding the net, scoring 11 goals in all competitions.

The women’s first-team joined Lopetegui’s men after the awards were handed out on a lap of appreciation around Molineux as the home campaign came to a close for another season.
