To mark International Midwives Day, Wolves Lottery are continuing to support the Maternity Unit at New Cross Hospital.
Across the course of the 2022/23 season, Wolves Lottery have donated around £3,000 to the city’s primary hospital, taking the grand total to more than £122,000, courtesy of the society lottery.
The Wolves Lottery continue to donate to a variety of good causes, with more than £2,000 each going to Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Walsall Manor Hospital, who also run fantastic maternity services.
Kevin Kay, head of ancillary sales at Wolves, said: “Over 5,000 babies are born in Wolverhampton each year, with New Cross providing excellent support to mothers throughout their pregnancy, during birth and after the baby is born.
“We have such a long tradition of giving back to the maternity unit over the years through Wolves Lottery and our supporters are so happy to keep donating as long as they keep delivering new Wolves fans into the world.”
In the spirit of International Midwives Day, there is one nurse who deserves a special mention from the Wolves Lottery team.
Nikki Farrington, neonatal bereavement and family support nurse at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust (RWT), has been named Neonatal Nurse of the Year by the Neonatal Nurses Association (NNA).
Nikki, a 44-year-old mum of one from Willenhall, received £1,000 to spend on the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and a year’s membership of the NNA.
Nikki’s neonatal unit team also won the Healthcare Heroes: Clinical Team of the Year at the recent staff Royal Awards for supporting the family of a baby who sadly passed too soon.
Katherine Cheshire, head of women's and neonatal services, said: “Please accept our thanks for your continued generous support for this unit, it is very much appreciated.”
