Wolves have taken a series of additional steps following last week’s announcement of the three-year sponsorship agreement with The Money Shop.
As a result of this feedback Wolves have taken a series of new steps and have accelerated the process of revealing ways in which The Money Shop and Wolves plan to work with the Club’s official charity: Wolves Community Trust.
- Wolves and The Money Shop will jointly fund a project – solely delivered by Wolves Community Trust – to deliver important financial education in Wolverhampton. The aim is for Wolves Community Trust to deliver this programme, through their education department, to young people in the City over the course of the next three years.
- The Money Shop is going over and above existing regulation and will give parents/guardians a choice regarding whether or not to include The Money Shop brand on children’s replica shirts. Those parents/guardians that wish to purchase a The Money Shop branded-replica shirt will be able to secure a transfer of the logo, which can be applied in the Club’s Megastores, free of charge.
- An advert will appear in the Club’s match day programme next season highlighting the details of charity and community organisations that focus on financial-related issues.
- The Money Shop will offer community-based financial organisations the opportunity to include their own literature within the Wolverhampton City Centre store.
“We are fully aware of the strength of feeling amongst some fans, community organisations, councillors and MP’s who have made representations to us.
“We have also received some positive correspondence concerning the issue as well, and note the views of MP Mark Garnier that without regulated short-term lenders there could be a vacuum left for unscrupulous organisations.
"Local politicians have also pointed to the fact that we have a good Credit Union in the city.
“We have contacted MP’s Rob Marris and Pat McFadden, and the Leader of the City of Wolverhampton Council Roger Lawrence, to outline the new steps we have taken.
“At the heart of these plans is both Wolves and The Money Shop funding an expansion to Wolves Community Trust’s education programme to deliver really important financial education to young people in Wolverhampton.
“We are always keen to acknowledge and understand the views of our supporters, and recognise that this has proved a contentious issue, but we would ask people to judge the partnership between Wolves and The Money Shop over the course of the three-year agreement.”
