U17 report | Wolves 0-0 Suwon Samsung

Wolves 0 Suwon Samsung 0

Wolves under-17s were held to a goalless draw by Suwon Samsung at Incheon Munhak Arena on Tuesday.

Richard Walker’s side picked up their second point in as many matches in the International Youth Cup and kept their first clean sheet in the process.

Walker made seven changes to the side that drew 1-1 with FC Seoul on Monday, with goalkeeper Lucas Kibrya given his first outing, while Alfie White started in midfield on his birthday.

Tom Edozie came closest to winning it for Wolves, but his second half strike was expertly saved by Geunwoong Byun in the Samsung goal.

The Old Gold started brightly and were in behind their opponents defence inside the opening couple of minutes as Dom Plank got to the byline, but saw his cut-back well defended.

In a half with few chances, Edozie skewed an effort comfortably wide of the post, while Walker was forced into a change when Josh Gidaree replaced Max Ruddock who was unable to continue after picking up a knock.

Half-time | Wolves 0-0 Suwon Samsung

Wolves came out for the second half with much more intent and purpose as they eyed a goal to help them on their way to a first victory in the tournament.

The closest they came was when Edozie struck a sweet half-volley towards the near post that looked to be nestling into the bottom corner, before Byun scrambled across to tip the ball around the post.

Plank then saw his own volley from the edge of the area comfortably saved and into the gloves of the goalkeeper, while Fabian Salmon hit a deflected free-kick just over the top.

And perhaps the final promising opening came when Wes Okoduwa found himself in the area and when the ball came to him, he looked to glace a header into the corner, but watched it drop agonisingly wide.
