Golden Chance is offering young football talent in America the chance of a lifetime to represent Wolves at this summer’s TST tournament, alongside a host of old gold legends.
Between 1st and 4th June, Wolves will compete in the winner-takes-all $1m TST tournament in North Carolina, with a team featuring club legends, as well as local talents who impress Wolves Academy staff through the third instalment of Golden Chance.
Last summer Golden Chance, after beginning in Hong Kong in 2019, gave 80 of the best unsigned 16–21-year-olds in Phoenix the chance to impress, hoping to catch the eyes of elite player development manager Darren Ryan and international projects manager Joe Hunt.
The two standout performers – Phillie Villapudua and Gabriel Gonzalez – were selected from a hugely successful trial day and earned the right to link up with James Collins’ under-21s squad on their pre-season training camp in Salt Lake City, as part of the inaugural MLS NEXT Pro Invitational.

Ryan, who will lead Wolves’ TST squad, said: “Golden chance has been a fantastic opportunity for us to expand the club’s profile and promote our brand in Hong Kong and the USA in recent years, so we’re delighted to be broadening the project further into the States this summer.
“It also gives a chance for unsigned players to take part in an exciting recruitment process, and for those who impress our staff the most, the opportunity to represent the club in an exciting new competition in North Carolina.
“I worked on the project last summer with Joe Hunt in Phoenix and saw the quality and standard, and it led to a great opportunity for two players to train with our under-21s, and I’m looking forward to seeing the possibilities this year’s project presents.”
To compete in the Golden Chance trials, players must be aged between 16 and 21 on 16th July 2023 and have a permanent address in the USA. To register an interest in taking part in either the Phoenix trials on 13 and 14 May, or Chicago on 20 and 21 May, please click here.
