England under-19 international Louanne Worsey has become the latest Wolves Women recruit of the summer, joining on a permanent basis from Birmingham City.
The 20-year-old, who has signed a 12-month part-time contract, has previously scored goals at this level with Nottingham Forest and brings experience from both the Super League and international football.
The attacker progressed through the Birmingham City system, making her senior debut in the Super League at the age of 16, before showing her ability in front of goal during a loan with Forest in the 2023/24 campaign.
Having hit 14 goals in 22 appearances, Worsey was called up by England’s under-19 group, featuring at the UEFA U19 Championship against Lithuania and Serbia – two of nine caps she has to date.
Last season the youngster developed further in the third tier while on loan at Burnley and now returns to the West Midlands to reunite with former Forest teammates Charlotte Greengrass, Amy Sims and Lyndsey Harkin.
Head coach Dan McNamara said: “It’s a fantastic signing for us as a club. Over the last few years I've always been a big admirer Louanne – for someone of such a young age, she’s got very good experience. It’s really good that we can attract such calibre of player.
“She's aggressive, technically superb and has real ability to win a game on her own. She can come up with those moments of brilliance, so I’m really excited to get her in. It's a statement of where we're trying to go as a club, a 20-year-old with so much talent and experience, with a massive future ahead of her.
“I try to bring in players who are going to immediately improve the starting 11 and Louanne is one of those who will be looking to make her mark. She's proven at this level, she's got good experience, she’s scored goals at this level. She really wants to knuckle down and focus on trying to get Wolves promoted into the Super League and have a good, consistent season herself.”
Worsey has become Wolves Women’s fifth new addition of the summer, following Amy Sims, Anna Grey, Georgia Marshall and Lyndsey Harkin to the Old Gold. They all join a group which has retained the majority of its key personnel from last season, and strength in depth was an area of focus for McNamara.
He said: “We got really talented players, and we want a competitive group, because we want people to be at it every week this year, and they know if they’re not at it, there’s somebody ready to step in. It’s the first season we’ve managed to have such good squad depth.
“With two youth internationals joining along with Anna Grey, it's really exciting, and hopefully they can bring some of those experiences to help drive us towards what we're trying to achieve.
“These kinds of players are what we want to base the future around. Over the summer we’ve brought in girls who are about to enter their prime years or are in their prime years. It's fantastic to see us put together such a young, but very experienced group. It's a good blend and it’s an exciting group for the next three, four years.”
