McNamara | 'Togetherness can go a long way'

Wolves Women achieved back-to-back league victories after a dominant performance on Sunday which saw them score four goals and keep a clean sheet against Hull City at the SEAH Stadium.

After the game, manager Dan McNamara spoke about the importance of the three points, his feelings on the team performance, the togetherness within the group and how they will ‘not get carried away’ before travelling to Stoke City next week.

On getting the three points

“You’ve always got to have your wits about you regarding these games and I said to the girls that this is now the most important game of the season, to follow up from last week.

“I thought we dominated the game, the way we moved the ball, and I thought the girls were fantastic with the structure which allowed us to dominate possession.

“We’ll definitely take a 4-0 win and move onto the next.”

On Amber Hughes’ consistency in front of goal and the team performance

It’s great to talk about the goalscorers and I think it’s become an expectancy that Amber scores goals for this football club, but it is also about the hard work and everything going on around her that creates those opportunities.

“We had a discussion with Charlotte Greengrass at half-time and a great bit of movement from her allows Beth Merrick to put the ball in the box and Amber to get on the scoresheet.

“It’s the little bits away from the camera that you don’t see, that are just as important.

“I thought they were all excellent, overall, I'm really pleased.”

On being competitive this season

We’re five games in and that’s nearly a quarter through the season. If you would’ve offered me four wins and one loss out of the first five games, I would’ve snatched your hand off.

“These girls will compete because of what they bring as their values as individuals and what they bring week in, week out to the football club.

“There are girls in there who love the club, and that togetherness can go a long way. We’ll look at Stoke City for next week and won’t get carried away.”
