Samuels | 'If there is a chance you can get more, you want more'

Match-winner Austin Samuels is hoping his brace in Wolves under-23’s victory over Middlesbrough in the opening game of the season is just the start of what is to come for the 20-year-old.

A goal in each half from the striker helped secure a winning start to the development side’s 2021/22 Premier League 2 campaign, but despite his double, Samuels was left ruing chances which could have seen him add to his goalscoring tally.

On starting the season with a win

“It was a good win by the boys. We had to grind it out towards the end and we probably could’ve had an easier end to the game if we hadn’t conceded off the corner and finished more of our chances.

“But in the end, we ended up getting the win, so we were all happy in the end.”

On post-match feedback from Collins

“He was happy that we got the win, obviously he thought that we probably could have controlled the game more and calmed everything down.

“But he kind of knew and was happy that we were able to grind it out towards the end.”

On scoring a brace

“To be fair, I’d prefer it if I scored every shot that I take. But you take two goals every day before the game, but obviously if there is a chance you can get more, you want more.

“A hat-trick always sounds better than two.”

On getting more goals

“Hopefully. You’ve always got to be ready for those ones when we regain the ball, and hopefully I can use my pace to get in behind the defence if they’ve got a hight line.

“If I can get through on goal, one-v-one, I back myself nine times out of 10.”

On aims for the season

“Hopefully I can go out on loan again, but you never know what the future holds. If I don’t, then I will obviously give my best for the team until I get another chance again.”
