ACL injury to sideline Shabani, Nuno confirms

Mertian Shabani is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after Nuno Espirito Santo confirmed the young Wolves forward suffered an ACL injury in Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup victory over Reading.

The 20-year-old German, who signed for the club from Bayern Munich in the summer, went down holding his knee just over 10 minutes into his senior debut after impressing for the under-23s in the early part of this season.

Shabani’s injury was a double blow for Wolves on the evening, who also saw fellow under-23 star Bruno Jordao stretchered from the field following an accidental collision moments before half-time.

Nuno confirmed the injury news with the media at his pre-match press conference, saying: “Shabani unfortunately had a serious injury to his knee, so he’s going to be out for a long time.

“It’s an ACL, he had a problem with his ligaments. It’s a tough injury, but he’s a young boy and strong boy and will come through and come back stronger.

“Jordao is on his ankle, his ligaments, but it’s not so serious. Let’s see how he does, but not so much time, I hope.”

The injuries to Shabani and Jordao, who have both been regular members of Rob Edwards’ development side this season, will mean changes will be made to the starting line-up when the under-23s face Southampton at Telford’s New Bucks Head this evening.

The game will be streamed live on wolves.co.uk and on the Wolves App. Click here for more information about how to watch that game.
