Lincoln 2-2 Wolves | Match report

Lincoln City 2 (Green 23’ & 42’) Wolves 2 (Ashley-Seal 39’, Giles 45’)

Wolves and Lincoln City played out an entertaining four-goal Checkatrade Trophy clash at Sincil Bank before Rob Edwards’ side claimed the bonus point on penalties.

The first-half was an eventful one at Sincil Bank, with the hosts ahead after 23 minutes as Matt Green benefitted from a ricochet to fire beyond Will Norris.

Edwards’ side responded when Ashley-Seal reacted quickest to fire home the rebound after Sam Slocombe could only parry a powerful strike from substitute Oskar Buur.

Lincoln quickly regained the lead through Green’s cool finish, but a swift counter attack by Wolves was ended with a rocket of a finish by Giles, into the roof of the net from a tight angle.

After the break, with time running out, Giles fired at the feet of Slocombe before Pedro Goncalves’ speculative effort flew over the crossbar.

In the shootout, Elliot Watt, Goncalves, Ashley-Seal, Ennis and Dominic Iorfa netted, before Tom Pett struck the crossbar to send the bonus point Wolves’ way.

MOMENT OF THE MATCH

On the day he signed an extended deal with Wolves, Ryan Giles celebrated with a stunning finish to draw his side level at 2-2. The winger rifled into the top corner on the stroke of half-time and celebrated in front of the travelling supporters.

QUOTES

Rob Edwards: "We showed good quality at times, not enough, but there were a couple of good moves in the second period where it would have been great if we had the final touch.

"I’m not saying we deserved it, I think a draw was the fair result on the night, but we showed a good blend of defensive courage, bravery to get on the ball because they press well and are physical, and also the character to win on penalties.

"We’ve been through that and lost once, so to win with the fans behind the goal giving the lads stick, that’s what the competition is all about."
