Youngsters Beaten By Blackburn At Molineux

Wolves 0 Blackburn 3 (Tomlinson 31, Magloire 52, Nuttall 66)

Wolves suffered defeat at the hands of table toppers, Blackburn Rovers in the Premier League 2 at Molineux on Monday evening.

Willem Tomlinson’s clean strike from range crept home for the visitors, who made the game safe with two more efforts after the interval.

Scott Sellars’ experimental team failed to clear a corner and Tyler Magloire lashed home, before Joe Nuttall’s header completed the scoring.

The visitors should have been ahead after just six minutes and Nuttall will have expected to do better when losing his man and volleying Lewis Hardcastle’s corner over.

Wolves were producing some tidy spells of possession during the opening stages, but on more than one occasion found the final ball lacking.

Owen Otasowie did come within inches of giving Sherwin Seedorf a simple header on 25 minutes, but watched his cross-cum-shot flash across the face of Oliver Byrne’s goal.

However, moments later the visitors edged in front when Tomlinson picked his spot from around 25 yards out and fired an effort into the bottom corner, beyond Harry Beasley.

That goal put Rovers in the ascendency and Beasley had to hold a powerful header by Okera Simmonds soon after.

Then, a minute before the break, Rovers came agonisingly close to a second, as Joe Grayson’s brilliant free-kick from the right-hand side came crashing back off the post.

Half-Time: Wolves 0 Blackburn 1

That woodwork strike on the stroke of half-time was simply a warning sign, however, and seven minutes after the break Rovers had their second, as a corner wasn’t cleared and Magloire rifled home the loose ball.

Sellars then introduced fresh legs into equation, with Ross Finnie replacing Thomas Reymao, however it didn’t change the pattern of play and Nuttall was given the simplest of tasks when making it 3-0, directing home a header from close range.

Phil Ofosu-Ayeh then made way for Diego Lattie and Jordan Allan followed soon after in place of Otasowie. There would be no further chances however and Byrne remained relatively untested as Rovers saw out their win.
