Tyler Roberts has signed a contract extension with Wolves, penning a new deal until at least the summer of 2025.
The under-21s winger has been with the old gold for nearly 12 years after initially joining the academy’s foundation phase, before turning professional in November 2021.
Since making the permanent step-up to James Collins side, Roberts has impressed in all competitions and was rewarded in March, as he made his senior international debut for Jamaica.
Academy manager for football, Jon Hunter-Barrett, is delighted to extend Roberts’ stay at Molineux and has highlighted the 19-year-old’s strong mentality as a key trait in allowing his ability on the pitch to flourish.
“We’re really excited to see Tyler sign his extension with Wolves. He’s an exciting player who gets people off their seats, so he’s certainly one we wanted to ensure has a future at Wolves.
“He brings energy, enthusiasm and drive to football which is what excites everyone about him. People will go to his pace and technique, but Tyler also has an excellent mentality to want to learn and want to improve. He’s very coachable and he wants to take information.”
Hunter-Barrett has also praised the work of those in charge of recruiting players from an early age for the academy, with Roberts a prime example of someone who has progressed right through the ranks as one of the club’s own.
“He’s one that we had to compete for at under-8s to actually sign for the football club. I’ve been fortunate enough to remember those days and the staff who were overseeing that programme at the time did an excellent job to get him to sign.
“It shows the importance of our pre-academy and actually making sure we get it right at those age groups.
“As we’ve seen now with Tyler coming through the programme and spending so long here, you see the rewards at the end. Making his international debut was not only a proud moment for his family and friends, but also Wolves as a football club.”
