Perry | On returning from injury and proving his worth to Lage

Taylor Perry was pleased to have played his part in Wolves under-23’s victory over Birmingham City this week, in what was his first game since October having overcome injury.

The 20-year-old midfielder started the season on loan at Cheltenham Town, putting in several impressive performances to be named the club’s player of the month for September, before an injury cut short his spell in League One.

Now back at Molineux for the remainder of the campaign having just missed out on the opportunity to head back out on loan due to the timing of his recovery, Perry is determined to give his all for his boyhood club as he aims to catch the eye of first-team head coach Bruno Lage.

On a first outing in four months

“I felt good. I did get tired towards the end of the game but that’s not a surprise considering it was my first game back since October.

“It was great to be back playing and hopefully I can build the momentum now and keep going into the next few games and get some more game time.”

On plans for the rest of the season

“I was hoping to go back out on loan, get the experience again, but obviously that’s not meant to be. I’m back here at Wolves and I’m now going to try my hardest to finish this season off strong.

“There’s still opportunities in and around the first-team and I’ve got to prove to the manager [that he belongs] in and around the first-team. There’s a lot to play for during the rest of the season, so I’ve got to keep working hard and put my head down.”

On being a senior member of the under-23s

“It’s a bit different to playing out on loan, so I had to adapt, but it’s nothing I’m not used to and I’ve done it before, so I’ll do it again.

“I’ve just got to stay professional and prove how good I am when I’m playing. I’ve got to really focus and be a team player as well, so that’s the main thing.”

On Monday’s win over Birmingham

“It was a really good win for the boys. I thought we did really well and deserved the win. I had to get used to the tempo straight away and I had to try and get into the game quickly as Birmingham are a really good team and we had to focus throughout the whole game.

“In the first-half, I felt we could’ve held the ball a bit better, so he [Collins] was telling us not to force it as we should’ve kept the ball at times and done better with it.

“But it still wasn’t bad in the first-half. I felt we still played good football although we could’ve held the ball better, but we did that in the second-half, which proved to be a better half for us.

“We knew what we had to do to win the game, or have the chance to win the game, and we have our objectives, and I thought we stuck to our game plan and we did what we had to do.

“That’s why we came out on top and hopefully we can take that into the next games.”
