An end-to-end encounter at New Bucks Head saw Wolves under-23s overtaken at the top of the Premier League 2 Division 2 table by Reading.
Wolves got off to the perfect start when Sadou Diallo put Rob Edwards’ side ahead within the first 60 seconds of the match.
The midfielder was found in acres of space in the centre of the Royals’ box by Niall Ennis who had made a quick run to the byline before cutting the ball back to Diallo who made no mistake from 12-yards out.
Wolves had just stopped celebrating when they found themselves pegged back. Good work by Teddy Lowe found striker Adam Liddle in the middle of the Wolves area, and his low dive flied straight past Andreas Sondergaard and into the back of the net.
The first-half flew by at 100mph, and Wolves could have gone ahead mid-way through the first half when Benny Ashley-Seal was played through one-on-one with Coniah Boyce-Clarke, but the Reading goalkeeper was quick off his line to deny the striker.
Sondergaard was kept busy in the second half as he made several good saves to stop Reading’s attacks, while Ryan Giles was causing difficulties in the visitors’ defence as they struggled to handle the pacy left wing-back.
But it was Reading who took the lead with just 15 minutes left in the match when Cameron Green picked out Ryan East just inside the box, and the midfielder hammered a shot hard and low past Sondergaard.
Despite late Wolves pressure, the home side could not find their way back into the game, and Reading moved three points clear at the top of the table.
MOMENT OF THE MATCH
The first five minutes of the match were possibly some of the most entertaining football you would see in the Premier League 2 this season, proving why the two teams are at the top end of the table. Great goals by both sides and fast-paced play which the 169 fans inside New Bucks Head were lapping up.
