Cherries Pipped Thanks To Morgan Winner!

Late Winner In Premier League Cup Tie

Wolves 2 (Deslandes 42, Gibbs-White 86)

Bournemouth 1 (Ndjoli 11)

Wolves came from behind to edge a tight Premier League Cup tie with Bournemouth at the Bucks Head with a goalkeeping error presenting Morgan Gibbs-White with a late winner.

Cherries striker Makael Ndjoli featured heavily in the opening exchanges. He struck a rising drive from 20-yards that was too high and then Ben Goodliffe had to scramble the ball clear as Ndjoli homed in on a cross from Jordan Lee.

Donovan Wilson was close to giving Wolves the lead when he sprinted into the Bournemouth box and hit a low shot that had the sting taken out of it by keeper Aaron Ramsdale.

The ball was trickling towards the goal but as it was about to cross the line Shaun Hobson got back to hook clear.

Almost immediately, in the 11th minute, Wolves fell behind with Lee and Ndjoli combining again. From Lee’s cross Ndjoli fired low towards goal with Harry Burgoyne spreading himself to block. But the ball ran back to Ndjoli who this time made no mistake.

In the 20th minute Dan Armstrong controlled Sylvain Deslandes’s low centre and turned to hit a shot that was blocked by Ramsdale.

From the corner conceded, taken by Connor Ronan, the ball was played back to Armstrong whose first shot was blocked with his follow up from the edge of the box hitting the bar and going over.

Ramsdale made a brilliant save to keep out Wilson’s flick and from Ronan’s corner there was a brief scramble which ended when Goodliffe blazed high over the bar from just six-yards out.

Wolves got the goal they deserved in the 42nd minute when the ball was played in to Wilson in the visitors box. He turned sharply and before he could get in a shot himself, Deslandes nipped in to convert from close range.

Half-Time: Wolves 1 Bournemouth 1

Kyle Taylor missed a good chance of restoring Bournemouth’s lead five minutes after the restart when he lifted the ball over the bar from close in after a cross from Conor Mahoney.

At the other end, Ramsdale bravely blocked as Armstrong threatened and then the keeper dived low to turn aside a low drive from Gibbs-White.

In the 73rd minute, Michael Zyro’s deft pass left Wilson with a free run into the box but he fired inches wide of the target from  15-yards.

Zyro was then replaced Sherwin Seedorf and, moments later, Christian Herc went on in place of Armstrong.

After 81 minutes, Burgoyne extended himself to full stretch to turn away an angled effort from Emerson Hyndman before a mistake by Ramsdale gifted Wolves the victory.

Under no pressure, the keeper kicked the ball straight to Gibbs-White who took a few steps before gratefully burying the ball in the back of the net.
